Chinese Tea Presentation and Ceremony at Library and Folkmoot

Posted on: 2020-03-13 by Will Lehman

On Friday, March 13, the Haywood County library and the Folkmoot organization hosted a traditional Chinese tea ceremony that was sponsored by the ACFS. The event at Folkmoot began at 11:30am and continued until approximately 1:10pm, after which the whole setup was moved to the Haywood County Library in Waynesville for a second show.

Xiaoli Youker of Waynesville, North Carolina, made a PowerPoint presentation about the history of tea and the various types of tea grown in China, and exchange student Shuang (Abigail) Wan performed the ceremony to groups of 25-30 participants. Visiting professor of Education, Dr. Huang, also assisted the ceremony and answered many questions.

The crowd at both events was extremely interested and inquisitive, and many people stayed after the ceremonies to try to talk to the presenters.

We at the ACFS are very happy with the turnout and very proud of our presenters, who demonstrated the richness and  complexity of this ancient art form.
